In an election year, everything about a presidential candidate gets scrutinized — right down to their heels.

On Monday, Michael Barbaro, a political reporter for the New York Times, noticed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was wearing a rather stylish pair of black boots on the campaign trail.

Rubio’s boots have since sent the fashion world into a mild frenzy, with Vanity Fair’s Tina Nguyen speculating how much they might have cost. Nguyen narrowed it down to four possibilities, ranging from $85 Giorgio Brutini boots — replete with a “Cuban heel” — to a $1,990 pair by Tom Ford. read more

Teen Seamstress’ Incredible Dresses Are Fit for a Disney Princess

For some people, it takes years to figure out their passions.  Angela Clayton started hers at age 15.

The now 18-year-old costume designer developed an interest in sewing three years ago when she was introduced to cosplay. According to her website, “it combined [her] love of creating, makeup, photography and dressing up.”

Today, the Long Island, New York native focuses more on original designs rather than recreating characters, though she has created a few fairytale- and historical-inspired pieces. But Disney might want to reach out to this young seamstress because even her original ball gowns are fit for royalty. read more

Old Navy Discontinues Kids Shirt That Outraged Parents

Old Navy has removed a toddler shirt from its stores after the graphic tee sparked controversy online.

The shirt, which featured the saying “Young Aspiring Artist,” but had the word artist crossed out and replaced with professions like astronaut and president, got major backlash from online users who criticized the retailer for stifling children’s creativity. On Twitter and Facebook, comments poured in. “Hey Old Navy, what’s wrong with being an artist?” wrote one user. “The fact that Old Navy is saying that being an artist isn’t a respectable profession and promoting that in children’s clothing is ridiculous! They’re discouraging kids from expressing their creativity!” added another. And from one proud artist: “Thanks Old Navy for telling kids that art is a less viable career path than astronaut.
